2024 Creative Writing Workshop

Saturday 13th April 2024 - Bethnal Green, London

Crafting Concise Worlds: A Short Story & Flash Fiction Workshop

Short Stories and Flash Fiction are where a writer learns their writing chops.

In a day of interactive workshops, author, editor, creative writing tutor and Writing Magazine columnist, Ian Ayris, will be running a workshop on Short Fiction, including how to get ideas using Free Writing, and an opportunity to write a First Draft of one of those ideas.

A second workshop on Editing will follow, plus an opportunity to edit your First Draft. The aim is, by the end of the day, for all attendees to have the core of a submissible piece of fiction

Creative Non-Fiction: True Stories Well Told

Creative non-fiction can be any length and take many forms including memoir and biography, personal essay and narrative poetry; what defines it isn’t its form but its relationship with truth. Non-fiction means it must be based on facts, so the ‘creative’ part doesn’t mean being creative with the truth but using creative techniques to craft engaging and meaningful stories out of it.

This workshop is an opportunity to think about the choice of narratives you might use to tell your own stories or other people’s and to look at how techniques such as dialogue, plotting and characterisation can help you tell a great story whilst still remaining truthful to the facts.
